In 1903, a man with a vision to make the most accurate and reliable automotive ignition components available set up shop in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Robert Wells was that man and he had a friend – another automotive entrepreneur – Henry Ford. Wells built components for the Ford Motor Company in 1903 and has ever since. This makes us one of the first and longest-lived Tier One suppliers in the industry.
In 1941, the U.S. entered into World War II. Wells was right there to help build one the most highly technical and secret advancements in the war – the Norden bombsight. In the years since then, Wells became one of the leading suppliers to other original equipment manufacturers and remains a major O.E. provider today. Building O.E. components for more than 100 years, none of our competitors has more experience. The same integrity and eye for detail demanded by Robert Wells is alive today. No other aftermarket/O.E. ignition/emission manufacturer can match Wells for coverage and quality.
In 2003, Wells became a subsidiary of United Components, Inc. (UCI) (www.ucinc.com). Today, Wells is located in several different North American locations. Its headquarters and electronics facility are located in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. A 21st century manufacturing plant is located in an industrial park populated by many well‑known U.S. companies in Reynosa, Mexico. A service warehouse in McAllen, Texas supports our Reynosa facility. Centerville, Iowa is home to our packaging distribution plant.
